Several hundred alumni from around the country were back on campus during November to take part in the homecoming 2002 celebration. This year’s theme was “Let the good times roll,” and roll they did, especially during the Saturday night dance. Grease was the word for the dance, which featured music from the 1960s and 1970s. And for the homecoming play put on by the Xavier Players, everybody got Footloose. Alumni also lined the streets around campus for the ninth annual homecoming parade as more than 100 entries marched, waved and floated by. They stuffed themselves with pancakes on Saturday morning and then stuffed themselves into the new Gallagher Student Center. The center opened in the spring, making this the first time that almost all of the alumni have seen the new facility—a stark contrast to the University Center of old. Much of the event centered on athletics, particularly the men’s basketball game against Florida A&M and the athletic hall of fame inductions, which included former men’s basketball coach Pete Gillen.
