Teaming Up

The presidents of Greater Cincinnati’s three largest universities had lunch last winter, and over sandwiches and salads they hatched a plan to collaborate on issues of community engagement designed to revitalize and invigorate the educational and economic health of the region.

Several times since then, the presidents— Xavier’s Michael J. Graham, S.J., University of Cincinnati’s Nancy Zimpher and Northern Kentucky University’s James Votruba—have regrouped to discuss the possibilities and issues. “The question is how to use the universities as a way of highlighting issues of importance to our local communities,” says Graham. Xavier’s theme will likely focus on the grassroots relationships of community building at the neighborhood level.
