Take Two

Take Two | Of the 28 students from the Gulf Coast who attended Xavier during the fall semester after Hurricane Katrina ravaged their schools, four decided to stay at Xavier instead of returning south. Karan Motiani, who was featured in the story on the students in the Winter 2006 issue of Xavier magazine, was one of those who stayed.

Take Two | More than 8,600 prayers, written by visitors to the exhibit “A Blessing to One Another: Pope John Paul II and the Jewish People,” were delivered to the Western Wall in Jerusalem. The prayers, which were part of the story on the exhibit in the Winter 2005 issue of Xavier magazine, weighed more than 31 pounds.

Take Two | Alumnus John Boehner, who was featured in the Spring 2006 issue of Xavier magazine after he was named U.S. House majority leader, receive an honorary degree at commencement in May. “In America, you can be anything you want,” he said. “Hard work and perseverance will take you as far as you want to go. At Xavier, I learned how to use my brain, think rationally and use my heart to guide my work. No one who succeeds in life does it alone.”
