Spring Breakaway, 1986

To battle pent-up winter blahs, the University sponsored its inaugural Spring Breakaway, a weeklong event that included tricycle races, tug-of-war contests, a balloon toss, arm wrestling and scavenger hunt. Students collected points for each competition—along with stories told long after graduation.
To coincide with the Spring Breakaway theme, students created team names based on things that could be broken, such as Cheap Sunglasses and Fingernails. The results? “The Blind Dates and the Crayons walked away with the trophies for the week’s competitions,” reads an excerpt from The Musketeer. “Even though there were only two trophy winners, every team walked away a winner from the Breakaway.”
