Return to Owner

A small cardboard box with no return address arrived in the office of Lori Lambert, director for residence life, in May. The package contained a set of brand new plastic measuring cups and an anonymous note. “A decade or so ago, when I moved out of Kuhlman Hall, to my shame the communal measuring cups came with me,” wrote the sticky-fingered alum who hoped the culinary items would help furnish his or her first apartment. “Every so often, I have remembered the incident, and every time I wince with shame.”

Lambert, who has worked at Xavier for 18 years, says she has never had anyone return items that occasionally go missing once students leave for the summer, but this particular item obviously struck a chord with the letter writer: “No, it’s not a huge deal, as the measuring cups are only worth a couple of dollars, but my integrity is worth a whole lot more.”
