Betty Porter knows how to give books the royal treatment, so to speak. As a member of Reviewers of Young Adult Literature (ROYAL), the assistant director for education services often spends her evenings reading—and writing about—children’s books. And the result is more than 500 new titles to the University’s library. The books benefit the department of education’s children’s literature program and are a great benefit to about 15 schools and public libraries around Cincinnati. Founded in 1991, ROYAL is a joint effort between the University and the Greater Cincinnati Library Consortium. The group meets on campus, where members report on books, divvy up new arrivals and help the libraries develop their collections.
