Twenty-five years is a long time to do anything. But for Tom Eiser, Xavier’s sports information director and associate athletic director for media relations, two and a half decades hasn’t been long at all. Eiser celebrated his silver anniversary at Xavier this year and was honored by the College Sports Information Directors Association for his longevity. Eiser began at Xavier in 1984, two years after he graduated and the year after Pete Gillen became basketball coach. He’s been an inside part of every Xavier NCAA Tournament game except three—in 1961, which was before he was born; in 1983, when he was a student reporter for the University radio station, WVXU; and in 1986 when a brief moment of insanity led him to take a job at the University of Detroit. He regained his sanity, though, and returned to Xavier where he’s been ever since.
