The McDonald Library’s newest project: transferring old Xavier-related films to a digital format. The project initially involves about 26 films, says associate vice president for library services JoAnne Young. Tim McCabe, a public services librarian, says one of the first films transferred is a 1931 recruiting piece featuring an 1873 graduate.
Conversion of the films is expected to be complete in May, although more will be done as film is acquired. Many films of University football games disappeared when the program was cancelled in the early 1970s. “That heritage was lost,” Young says. “If somebody has some, we would love to have them.”
