Chapter Spotlight: Los Angeles

Members of the women’s soccer team found out what it’s like to be California girls on a September Saturday. Class of 1968 member Paul Dwyer and his wife, Barbara, opened their Santa Monica home to the players, coaches and area alumni for a day of fun in the sun. When the couple heard the players had a day to kick back between a game at Pepperdine University and another at the University of California-Santa Barbara, the Dwyers thought their house would be the perfect place to spend it. They planned the event to give alumni and the players a chance to intermingle, hit the nearby beach, roam the star-studded streets of Pacific Palisades and get a taste of the Southern California lifestyle.

“I love to interact with students and coaches,” says Paul. “And we got people involved who otherwise might not have been.” The day wrapped up with a barbecue, and the turnout was the best he had ever experienced at an alumni event, with as many alumni at the house as there were players.
