The women’s basketball team will have 12 regular-season games and all postseason games broadcast on WVXU (91.7 FM) next season. It’s the first radio broadcast package in team history. “We hope this exposes us to a new audience and helps the game of women’s basketball grow in popularity,” says coach Melanie Balcomb. All games on radio will also be broadcast online at www.wxvu.com. Announcers have not yet been selected.
Sean Miller, who spent the past five seasons as an assistant at North Carolina State, has been named as a first-ever associate head coach for the men’s basketball team. He joins John Groce, also a former N.C. State assistant, and Alan Major as assistant coaches to Thad Matta. Miller, 32, played at the University of Pittsburgh, where he was Big East freshman of the year in 1988 and second-team all-conference as a senior. “I’ve known Sean for seven years,” says Matta. “He brings tremendous experience in both recruiting and coaching. He’s a proven recruiter in the Big 10, Big East and ACC. He’s shown that he can sign the top players in the country.”
